Oscar and the Wolf battles his inner demons on 'Oh Boy'

“This song is a raw portrayal of my battle with my inner demons, and my struggle to find a way out of the darkness.”

Friday, August 2, 2024 – What if you’re so addicted to love that you forget how to love yourself? And, in that quest for self-love, you fail to live up to a perfect projection? Oscar and the Wolf’s new single 'Oh Boy' is an acute glimpse of this destructive spiral; troubles that the project’s founder, Max Colombie, has fortunately found a way to overcome: “This song is a raw portrayal of my battle with my inner demons, and my struggle to find a way out of the darkness.”

Listen to Oscar and the Wolf - Oh Boy right here.

'Oh Boy' is the heaviest Oscar and the Wolf song to date; a thunderous waltz that captures Colombie’s disarray with molten-lava guitars and jagged synths.“This battle couldn’t’ve been victorious without my beloved fans,” he says. “The thousands of messages of love and acceptance. You pulled me back from the darkness. My dear wolfies, this song is for you, a testament of survival. Thank you for believing in me, even when I lost myself. You taught me that it was okay to not be okay. And if I did it, you can do it.”

Following 'Angel Face', which has amassed over 7 million streams worldwide, and the more uptempo 'Somebody Without U', Colombie continues to share his journey through addiction, creating a powerful and evocative contrast between catchy pop and kitchen sink imagery. 'Oh Boy' is the final chapter of that story, with Colombie promising an encore at the end of the song.

'Oh Boy' arrives in the wake of Oscar and the Wolf’s spectacular debut headline slot at Belgium’s Dour festival. The performance was a colorful party, featuring a dozen dancers, a live band, an impressive production, featuring stunning visuals and fireworks that illuminated the night sky behind the stage The brand-new choreography and stage design created an immersive audiovisual experience, showcasing the strength of Colombie’s artistry as Oscar and the Wolf enters its next chapter.

Since the project’s inception, Colombie has crafted a well-honed balance between dark and light – a highly distinct blend of club music, cutting-edge pop and hot-blooded R&B. Spearheaded by his albums Entity (2014), Infinity (2017) and Shimmer (2021), the project flourished into a critically- acclaimed arena-selling tour de force. After signing with Sony, Oscar and the Wolf enters a new phase, one where Colombie fearlessly courts the imperfections of the person beneath the spectacle, taking his craft into more candid, personal directions.

Recently, both in the media and via personal channels, Colombie has been open about showing some of the darkest past chapters of his life. He now uses his platform to raise public awareness on mental health and substance abuse. “I used to see myself as a character in scenarios that didn't really exist. Now, my work is all really autobiographical. I don't want to become the face of mental illness, but I do want to be a voice of awareness.”

About Oscar and the Wolf
As the creative entity behind Oscar and the Wolf, Max Colombie prowls somewhere in-between the familiar emotions. It made the Belgian artist a true rarity amongst other arena-selling peers: a magnetic performer who can somehow embody his most vulnerable and grandiose self within a single moment.

Colombie has maintained Oscar and the Wolf’s well-honed balance between dark and light – within his unique blend of club music, cutting-edge pop and hot-blooded R&B. After signing with Sony, Oscar and the Wolf enters a new phase, one where Colombie fearlessly courts the imperfections of the person beneath the spectacle, taking his craft into more autobiographical directions.

New single 'Angel Face' marks the first taste of a new, more vulnerable Oscar and the Wolf. “Every song is a story about a certain forbidden consumption or a drug. Sometimes beautiful and sweet, sometimes dark and bitter.”
