Oscar and the Wolf releases new album ‘TASTE’
A sweeping, cinematic chronology of a slow descent from euphoria to destruction
Friday, October 25, 2024 – “TASTE”, the fourth album by Oscar and the Wolf, is out now. These 12 songs take Colombie’s quest for vulnerability up a notch, stretching the project’s polarities between dark and light to new stratospheric length. It’s a sweeping, cinematic chronology of a slow descent from euphoria to destruction.

“I used to see myself as a character in scenarios that didn't really exist,” Colombie says. “Now, my work is all really autobiographical. I don't want to become the face of mental illness, but I do want to be a voice of awareness. I wasn't being honest; for example, I kept quiet about the fact that I was gay for a long time. I wasn't honest with my audience. People always needed to see that I'm larger than life. People needed to see me as if I'm invincible. People needed to see the luxury. The real boy beneath was not happy with the luxury. The real boy was having a hard time, and luxury didn't make me happy. What makes me happy is love and safety. Up till now, that search was counterbalanced because I tend to be an obstacle to myself. That's basically what happened. So “TASTE” has become very much a therapeutic album for me.”
Not everything on “TASTE” is a cautionary tale. The woozy, stripped folk odyssey “Hard To Find”, for instance, embraces you like balmy summer rain, an open-hearted serenade to drugged up delirium. “There is this scene in True Blood where vampires collect the blood of a fairy. It's the drug that makes them immune, back in the sun, and they're high. I found it such a beautiful scene, watching those vampires dancing high out of their minds in the sunlight. I relate to that feeling on “Hard To Find”. It gives an illusion that everything is okay. I'm in another world but you're not going to find me. Because everywhere I am right now is dark, but it's super magic. I like that contrast. Loving the dark, and mixing with magic, like a vampire going into the fairy realm.”
For a creature of the night, the light can indeed become blinding, and on “TASTE”, the light becomes so invasive that Colombie’s scars and trauma become visible for all to see. The light manifests into the sword piercing the heart, the blinding glare of the spotlights, the scorching heat of the sun. But it’s ultimately a light of truth, of transparency, of total unburdening from the brittle armor that kept Colombie grounded. There is no more hiding behind the facade: “TASTE” offers the most candid glimpse of Oscar and the Wolf yet.
Since Oscar and the Wolf’s inception, Colombie has crafted a highly distinct blend of club music, cutting-edge pop and hot-blooded R&B. Spearheaded by his albums “Entity” (2014), “Infinity” (2017) and “Shimmer” (2021), the project flourished into a critically- acclaimed arena-selling tour de force.
Oscar and the Wolf has announced a series of live dates to support the album in the first half of 2025 – including big arena bouts on 14 and 15 March at Antwerp’s Sportpaleis, and 20 March at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome.
